**There is going to be a lot of writing on these posts. This isn't very common for me on my blog, but I really want to journal everything that we did in Thailand.
Our vacation to Thailand was truly AMAZING.
It all started at the Las Vegas Airport where we boarded our first of 3 flights. We totally lucked out when it came to our seats on the airplane. We were seated on the very back row, no one on either side of us, and we both had leg room! I'm sorry but you can't beat that! We were able to sleep for about 8 hours of the longest stretch of our flight (14 hours). So it really wasn't bad at all!
After all of the flights we were finally arrived in Bangkok.
It is a very big city, with many crazy sights and smells. There are areas that have huge buildings, and other parts that appear to be more third world. It reminded Blair of the Philippines.
There were so many things to do in Bangkok! Right when we got there we headed out to explore the city.
We ate food off the street (which terrified me and Sarah), found a mall that had everything in America but SO much cheaper, then we went and got the boys fitted for suits!
They measured them and had the suits made in one day. They are so nice and look amazing!
That night we walked around the night market. It stretched on for as long as we could see. The boys were able to find nice Polo and Lacoste shirts.
After a long day of walking, we headed to get our first Thai massage. We didn't realize what a Thai massage actually was. They make you put on these loose clothes, and then instead of using lotion and stuff like they do in America, they just massage you over your clothes.
The best part about Thai massages is that they totally stretch you! It is so hard to explain, but they are basically the most incredible massages I've ever had!
Every night in Bangkok we would eat Mango's and rice. It is a delicious late night treat!
Saturday morning we woke up bright and early and headed to see all of the Wats (temples) in Bangkok. To get around Bangkok you have to take a ferry up the river. Riding the ferry all day was fun, even though the water was pretty nasty! I told the boys they would have to pay me 2 grand to jump in it. ha!
The first temple we went to was Wat Arun. It was beautiful. All of the temples in Thailand are made out of tiny pieces of porcelain. It seems like it would have taken them forever to build! We were able to climb up to the top of Wat Arun. It reminded me of climbing Stairway to Heaven in Hawaii. The view from the top was breathtaking.
After Wat Arun we headed to Wat Pho. Inside of Wat Pho there is a huge lying Buddha. It takes up the whole entire building!
Then we headed to the Grand Palace. Inside of the Grand Palace you have to have your legs covered up, so the boys got some sweet pants, and me and Sarah were given wraps. There are lots of gorgeous buildings inside of the Grand Palace.
After wandering around the Grand Palace, we headed to Khao San Road. Khao San Road is a really neat road with lots of restaurants and shops. It was very refreshing to spend time there after a busy day in the craziness of hot Bangkok.
This was a bunch of dried fish/squid/etc. It seriously stunk so bad!!!!! I don't know why I look so happy. ha!
Right before we found the road, we were all dying of heat stroke. I was literally on the verge of a break down... when we found a 7-11! We ran in and got a Slurpee and the little taste of America seriously saved my life. haha! So pathetic, but sadly true. (We look a rough in this picture. haha!)
When we got back to the hotel that night, we had a few emails from friends back in America that were concerned for us. Apparently there was a terrorist threat targeting Americans in Bangkok. After reading a few news articles, we decided that we wanted to stay away from high tourist areas on Sunday. SCARY! While me and Sarah we really nervous, the boys seemed pretty confident that we would be just fine.
Sunday morning we decided it would be a great idea to see if there was a ward in Bangkok that we could go to. Sure enough, there was an English speaking ward at 9:00am. The church was VERY hard to find and our cab driver had no idea where he was going! We had him let us out of the cab and we just started walking. We had been walking for about 20 minutes and were about to give up, when we saw this sign! We all started cheering and clapping we were so happy!
I have never been so happy to see our Church! Although the boys weren't exactly dressed for church, they still let us in :) The ward was actually pretty big, and it was a great experience to be able to go to church while being so far from home. It also helped calm our nerves from the news we had heard the day before about the terrorist attacks.
After going to church we headed to the Sunday market. It stretched on for miles. There were so many cute shops. Me and Sarah found some darling dresses.
After wandering the shops, we headed back to our hotel (The President Palace) and grabbed our bags.
On our way to the airport we had just enough time to stop and get a quick Thai foot massage!
It was time to go to Chiang Mai!
Our time in the big city was incredible.
So many interesting foods, buildings, people, shops, etc.
Ohh the sights and smells of Bangkok...
we will never forget you!
